The military came up with a program referred to as Bio Sensor which was used to raise their service dogs. Studies showed several critical periods of early learning in a puppies first few months which they felt led to Super Dogs.
They believed these dogs had superior learning abilities from larger brains due to this early neurological stimulation received during the Bio Sensor program techniques.
This program consists of a set of techniques practiced on each and every puppy in the litter starting on the 3rd day of life until the 16th day. These techniques are practiced every day during that span of time.
I've outlined these techniques below and will add pictures from one of our litters of Irish Jack Russell Terriers which will help give you a better idea of what this process is all about.
* these techniques are no more than 3 seconds in duration *
Tactile Stimulation: Molding the pup in one hand, gently stimulate (tickle) the pup between the toes on any one foot using a Q-tip or soft toothbrush.
Head Held Erect: Using both hands, hold pup in a perpendicular position to the ground, (straight up), so his/her head is directly above his tail. this is an upwards position.
Head Pointed Down: Holding pup firmly with both hands the head is reversed and is pointed downwards so it's pointing towards the ground.
Supine Position: Hold the pup so it's resting in the palm of both hands with it's muzzle facing the ceiling. The pup while on it's back is allowed to sleep/struggle.
Thermal Stimulation: Using a damp towel that has been cooled in the refrigerator for 5 minutes. Pup is placed on the towel, feet down and allowed to move away from the cold.
All of these exercises are intended to stimulate the puppies neurological system and increase their learning capacity as well as jump start their learning. Because the military dogs are raised using this method with great success, we believe it to be beneficial to our puppies as well. For this reason we are adopting this method for our own puppies and hope our families benefit by the results!
We will be using the Bio Sensor program which our mentors at Connemara Terriers use for their Irish Jack Russell Terrier Puppies. Because our mentors have been so successful with this method, we too will be using it for all of our puppies!
Did you know:
English Jack Russell Terrier, Irish Jack Russell Terrier, Shorty Jack Russell Terrier, Puddin Jack Russell are all names for Jack Russell Terriers. These names all refer to a dog longer than tall however the Connemara hail from very different bloodlines. Ours have the DNA test results to prove it! The Connemara Terrier is a mild tempered, gentle companion dog that makes a great family pet.
